How long does publishing to TestFlight take?

Most builds appear in TestFlight within 5–30 minutes after Codemagic finishes uploading the build. However, Apple's processing time can vary significantly and may occasionally take several hours, especially for first-time uploads or during periods of high demand.

The total time depends on multiple steps in the publishing process, not just the Codemagic build.

The TestFlight publishing process

When you choose to publish to TestFlight, the following happens:

1. Codemagic builds your app
   Codemagic builds your iOS application and uploads the generated .ipa file to App Store Connect.

2. Apple processes the build
   Apple validates the uploaded build and performs automated processing and compliance checks.

3. The build becomes available in TestFlight
   Once processing is complete, the build becomes available for internal testing in TestFlight.

What affects processing time?

Apple's processing (Step 2) is handled entirely by Apple, so the duration can vary depending on several factors.

Processing may take longer for:

• The first build of a new app

• Apps with new capabilities or entitlements

• Builds containing significant changes

• Periods of high load on Apple's services

While processing is underway, you'll see the build with a Processing status in App Store Connect.

Internal vs. external testers

• Internal testers: Once Apple finishes processing the build, it is typically available immediately for internal testers.

• External testers: If you're distributing to external testers, Apple may require Beta App Review before the build can be installed, which can add additional processing time.

What you can control

Once Codemagic successfully uploads your build to App Store Connect, the remaining steps are handled entirely by Apple.

If your Codemagic build completes successfully, you can monitor the processing status directly in App Store Connect while waiting for the build to become available in TestFlight.
